Passionate Nollywood actor, Femi Adebayo is sure of the most hardworking actor in Nollywood joggling various movie set to attend to the yarning of the people of Kwara state where he is appointed as the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on culture and tourism. Recently Femi won at the just held Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) wining his father who was nominated alongside him and other top act. In this chat he spoke on the winning the award, politics,
You were recently nominated in same category at the just held AMVCA awards; and you won the category, did you see that coming?
The good thing is that I am extremely happy that I am sharing the same category with my father; I was nominated based on my movie ‘ Etiko Onigedu’ while my father was nominated based on his own production ‘Adaba’. For me been nomination is an acknowledgement of your hardwork; so winning it was indeed a big deal for me because I never saw it coming and I can tell you that my father is super proud of me.
After the AMVCA awards what other awards do you look forward to receiving?
Receiving the AMVCA like I said was a big deal for me because I have always looked forward to that moment when I will be winning my first award on the platform; like you know in life it is important to aim high; may be the Oscars could be next.
Will it be right to say your father in a way have an influence in your career?
Well working closely with my father gave me a picture and maybe I got the passion from him since he is an actor. I used to take acting as a hobby before it turned to a profession. I wanted to be a lawyer and I went to school to study it. But I later realized that I was having more fun and getting comfortable in showbiz. That was why I settled for acting.
Most of your siblings are also into this profession of yours; don’t you at times feel challenged?
Not at all, seeing my other siblings involving in what I am doing as a filmmaker brings me lots of fulfillment because it shows that we all live in one accord as a family; and I must say our parent are indeed happy because we are all doing well in our chosen fields as a filmmaker. I am super proud of all my siblings.
What are the lessons you’ve learnt from your father?
I have learnt so much from my father and I am still learning. I am using this opportunity to say thank you to him and if I am coming to this world again I wish to come through him. He is an extremely humble man and we learnt that from him. Apart from the fact that he is a talented actor, he is a born leader and we got that attribute from him too. I have been using so many of his principles in my daily activities and it is really working for me. I give it to him and I see him as a major factor behind my success.
Who is Femi Adebayo away from the limelight?
You can give me the opportunity to describe myself and I won’t say sweet things. I am an easy going person, straight forward and I am totally different from the person you see on screen. But when it comes to work I interpret my roles well and I can go to any extent to achieve it. I do researches very well.
Would you act nude for a price?
Like I said Yoruba movies are meant to promote culture and it is not part of our culture to appear nude. So I would never for any amount. What is money? For instance let the payment be made with the highest currency in the world, I Femi Adebayo will never act nude, it’s demeaning of our cultural values.
Knowing that your job is demanding, what has been your sustaining power?
I must thank the Almighty for that strength and eternal appreciation to the executive governor of Kwara State, Dr. AbdulFatai Ahmed for his support because with his kind permission, we have been able to do a little in terms of entertainment in Kwara. Before I came in, the social life was a little backward but gradually it’s taking better shape as so many entertainment show they do in Lagos equally happens here, the cinemas has improved , the popular Laffmattaz is now a regular thing. To the glory of God, Ilorin to Lagos is about 40min flight and we have three different flights everyday so its easy to come to Ilorin and invest as the case maybe
What is your take on youth’s involvement in politics?
Believe me sincerely it is a good idea that youths these days have begin to show keen interest in politics but it is actually sad that when people hear the word’ Politics’ what ordinarily comes to the mind is that there are thieves, they corrupt and if we continue to think that way nobody will have interest in the politics of the country. The fact remains that we have so many truthful politicians in there but as you know the bad eggs will overshadow the good ones. So for me I will tell the youth that now it is our time to get right and happily for us there is not too young to rule bill indicating that a lot of youths can be lawmakers; let us use this medium to tells those grandfathers to go and sit down; retirement age is 65 in Civil Service; so let those people above 65 give chances to the younger ones to come on board and see what we can do
