The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia State has sworn in 1,900 corp members deployed to the state for the 2018 Batch ‘B’ orientation exercise.
Speaking during the ceremony at the NYSC permanent orientation Camp in Bende local government area, Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu promised to reward excellence among the corps members and provide an enabling environment for them to succeed during their service year.
He encouraged the corp members to be worthy ambassadors of the scheme and assured that their lives and property would be safe during their stay in the state, adding that the government would continue to improve facilities in the camp.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Ike Anyatonwu , said their deployment to the state was an opportunity for them to contribute their quota to the development of the state and warned against their involvement in risky behaviours.
The State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Francesca Nfon said the scheme was designed at moulding the corp members into responsible citizens.
She thanked the the Director General of NYSC Brig-General SZ Kazaure for approving and awarding the contract for the renovation of female hostel "C" which had been abandoned for over four years.
