The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) in Ekiti state has urged Governor Ayodele Fayose to honour his promise of not leaving the state as a debtor by paying all outstanding salaries of workers in the state.
The labour union in a statement jointly signed by the NLC chairman,Comrade Ade Adesammi and his Trade union Congress counterpart,Comrade Odunayo Adesoye and made available to journalists on Tuesday advised the outgoing governor to consider paying the outstanding Gratuity,Pension,Salaries and Deductions before his tenure expired by October 16,2018.
The union commended the governor for his efforts in the state over the years, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
" Unequivocally,we want to remind the outgoing government led by his excellency Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose on his promise that he will not leave the state as a debtor, we are requesting for the payment of all our outstanding Gratuity, Pension, Salaries and Deductions to be paid before his exit on 16th October ,2018. More importantly, now that the federal allocation has improved," the statement read in part.
The organized labour while congratulating the governor-elect Dr. Kayode Fayemi over his victory at the July 14 poll, urged him to be magnanimous in victory.
The NLC further enjoined the governor-elect to run an inclusive government, promising the union's readiness to work with his government for the best interest of the state.
The organized labour identified with the entire workforce in the state for their understanding and courage in the face of economic hardship.
According to the NLC,they pleaded with the workers to exercise little patience as they hope the outgoing government would defray the backlog of salaries,gratuity and pensions.
