An aspirant to the Ogun State House of Assembly under the platform of Mega Party of Nigeria, Hon Sola Dayo Ishola on Monday called on lawmakers both at national and State Assembly to make laws that will discourage rural urban drift.
Hon Ishola who spoke in Odeda, headquarters of Odeda local government area of Ogun State on his aspiration to represent Odeda state constituency under the platform of Mega Party of Nigeria, said it is worrisome that there is no single legislation to encourage youths to see rural areas as a comfort zone, but rather prefer rural urban migrations
He said if truly government is serious on its diversification from dependence on oil to agriculture and other sectors, there must be encouragement from the government on how to make rural areas habitable to young graduates and entrepreneurs, thereby discouraging urban migration.
Already the urban area is already saturated, too much concentration of government machineries and if truly we want to develop our agricultural base, there must be a law to encourage people to move to the rural areas where they can live happilly and practice farming.
He said if elected as an assemblyman, he is going to ensure that people oriented bills are sponsored and ensure that rural areas take a substantial part of annual budget.
The rural areas did not need much from government expect good motorable roads, electricity, school for their Children, a worckable primary health centers with drinkable water and with this, I can assure you that all the noise of giving agriculture a priority would have been achieved without much ado.
While speaking, the Chairman of the Party in the Local Government Hon Wakil Ilesanmi said based on the ideology of the Party and it's manifesto, the Party is sure of victory in 2019 general elections.
He said the programmes of the Party is people's based and it will not toy with the welfare of the masses and that is why it will continue to mobilize credible people into the Party.
