Fayemi to Fayose: Don't Make Ekiti Killing Field

By Gbenga Sodeinde, Ado Ekiti

The Media Office of the Governor-Elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has warned Governor Ayo Fayose to stop plans to poison waters along the grazing zone of Ekiti State to kill cows belonging to the Fulani herdsmen.

The office also warned Fayose to stop alleged planned attacks on the members of the opposition as a reprisal for the roles they played in the loss of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the last weekend's governorship election.
A string of public announcements on radio had alleged that the governor had planned to poison the waterways along the grazing zone of the state for mass killings of the Fulani cows to instigate ethnic violence in reaction to the loss of PDP in the last weekend's governorship election in which the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fayemi, beat his PDP's counterpart, Prof Olusola Eleka.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity in the office of the Governor-elect, Wole Olujobi, warned Fayose against plots to instigate any violence that will lead to loss of lives of innocent citizens.
"We have heard and read reports of alleged plans to send assailants against members of APC, particularly the aides of the Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to pay with their lives for the roles they played in the victory of their principal that threatened Fayose's political survival.
"We have also read reports of plans to poison waterways along the grazing zone of the state for mass killings of cows to stoke violent ethnic clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities, including alleged importation of thugs to attack the opposition, all in attempt to make the state ungovernable for the incoming administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi.

"By this statement, we warn Fayose against these alleged plots because this is not the first time that the governorship election would be won and lost and after that the participants always allowed the peace to reign.
"Ekiti people will not allow these desperate moves as if politics is the only means of survival.

"We call on the security agencies to investigate allegation of importation of assassins to Ekiti State to kill members of APC, particularly those who played one role or the other that led to Fayemi's victory and loss of Fayose's candidate, Olusola Eleka.
"We also call on the security agencies to comb every nook and cranny of the state to fish out alleged assailants lurking around to kill members of APC," Olujobi concluded.
