It was jubilation galore for the editor of the popular Yoruba weekly tabloid, Alariya Oodua Magazine, Mr. Oyekunle Babarinde as he escaped from a fire accident which could have claimed his life yesterday.
The accident that happened at Otedola Jubilee Estate along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where a petrol tanker fell and exploded was said to have claimed not less than nine lives and burnt about 54 vehicles to ashes.
According to information, Mr. Oyekunle who is planning his book launch, ‘Yoruba Ni Tooto’ on July 26th and one of his colleagues, Mr. Oyedele were said to be coming from an important meeting in Ibadan, where they had gone to meet a popular gospel musician, Dr. Yinka Ayefele (MON) for the event.
We learnt that there was a mix-up which led to the delay of Mr Oyekunle and Mr Oyedele.
Speaking with a reporter on telephone conversation this morning, Mr Oyekunle said it was Dr. Yinka Ayefele who God used to safe his life and Mr. Oyedele at the accident scene, saying if not, the story would have been different.
In his words “My brother, help me thank God on my behalf. I was on my way coming from Ibadan where I had gone to meet Dr. Yinka Ayefele in preparation for the launching of my book, Yoruba Ni Tooto.
“Ayefele delayed me and the person we went together, Mr Oyedele. I had wanted to leave, but I just have to wait because I might not have the chance again to meet with him again before the day of launching.
“When I left his place after the meeting, getting to Otedola Jubilee Estate where the fire accident occurred, it was a surprise to have seen how cars were burnt to ashes and some people were also burnt along with vehicles.
“If not that Ayefele delayed me, I might have been a victim of the fire accident. Sometimes when we come across disappointment or delay, God have a purpose for it, this is an example.” He concluded.
