About 21 people are feared dead and several others injured following an overnight raid on the village of Douwayan in Demsa local government of Adamawa state by suspected Fulani Herdsmen, local sources said.
The marauding herdsmen who have been wrecking terror on Numan, Demsa and Girei local governments areas were said to have attacked the communities around 8 pm Friday, burning down the village and destroying properties.
The Adamawa state police public relations officer, Abubakar Othman could not confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
Former Senator representing Southern Adamawa, Grace Bent reacting to the incident condemned the attack and called on every Nigerian to rise and stand against the killings in country.
The village head of Dong, Justine Dong said, “The Fulanis have warned us that after the Ramadan they will attack our area, I reported that to my immediate superior the Hama Batta, yet it happened.
I am the district head of this place, this attack has happened more than once, I feel like we are a tribe not wanted in Nigeria. Eighteen people have been killed and about seven people have been killed in the neighboring villages.”
Grace Bent said, “This consistent dastardly and satanic killings has completely gotten out hand.
“Every Nigerian must rise up to condemn this incessant and unwarranted destruction of lives and property in Numan and Demsa.
“Our people cannot sleep, the security agents seem overwhelmed, it’s a chaotic situation in Numan.
“Numan area has been under sustained siege for the past one year.
“I expect that by this time the government would have condemned these killings and would have moved personnel to assist the victims of this mindless killing.
“This is the same place where seven policemen were killed in herdsmen attack and now it has happened again.”
Lazarus Obidah said, “I am Jauro of this area of Demsa. We were bereaved and there was a wake to that effect.
“Suddenly there were sporadic gun shots at the outskirts of the town and they came in and killed my family members and our visitors.
“About 18 people were killed and 7 of those people killed are members of my family, I would have preferred to die in their place.”
